Containing Tide was a performance by Platform Graduate Award nominee Helen Kohl as part of her solo exhibition at Modern Art Oxford in September 2023. The performance took place within the gallery space and in interplay with the exhibited works 'Untitled (Elements of the Intimacene)' (2023) and 'Untitled (The Heir of the Sea)' (2023). Through a series of movement, gesture, and poetic narrative, Containing Tide aimed to challenge society's preconceived notions of human containment and invited the viewer to explore the symbiotic relationship between us - as human vessels - our environment, ourselves, and each other. Through her work, the artist touches on the themes of human connection through shared waters, leaking vessels, and existing as tidal beings in times favoring containment and consistency.
